2026 is the 300th anniversary of the birth of St Gerard Majella.
One of the most beloved saints of the Catholic church, St Gerard is the patron saint of famillies, mothers and unborn children. He has become known as the ‘champion of the family’.
To pay homage to St Gerard Majella, the Redemptorists of Oceania are inviting you to celebrate a day of family, faith and fun at St Clement’s Retreat and Conference Centre near Galong.
Fr David Hore, C.Ss.R, said St Gerard’s legacy is just as strong today as it was 300 years ago.
“Couples across the world hoping to conceive a child often seek St. Gerard’s help. Countless women invoke his intercession during pregnancy and labour, with many reporting safe deliveries after praying to him,” he added.
Fr David said on Sunday, March 15, families and the Catholic faithful, are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch, rugs and chairs and participate in a day of family life, faith and love in the grounds of St Clement’s.
“We live in an age when we are often so busy and disconnected from those around us.”
St Gerard reminds us just how precious family and relationships are, and the celebration we have planned for March 15 will give everyone a chance to pause and appreciate those in our lives,” said Fr David.
The day will begin with an outdoor mass at 10.30am, followed by games, activities and tours of the Galong ‘Museum’. A sausage sizzle will be available or famillies can BYO picnic lunch.
