SUMMARY:Wounded by Beauty: Magnificat - Choral performance (Aurora) and accompanying lecture (Prof. John Kinder)
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we take the time to really listen to beautiful music?\n\n\nThe Dawson Society’s Wounded by Beauty series returns on Friday 9 October for a special evening exploring one of the great Christian hymns: the Magnificat — Mary’s song of praise.\n\n\nAcclaimed chamber choir Aurora will perform three settings of the Magnificat from very different periods:\n\n\n• Gregorian chant\n• William Byrd (1549)\n• Arvo Pärt (1989)\n\n\nEach work will be introduced by Emeritus Professor John Kinder FAHA OSI (UWA)\, whose commentary helps us enter more deeply into the structure\, beauty and meaning of the music. The choir will perform excerpts during the introduction before giving a complete performance of each work.\n\n\nThis is more than a concert. Wounded by Beauty is an invitation to recover the art of attentive listening—and to allow beauty to awaken our sense of wonder\, longing and transcendence.\n\n\nWhether you are a lifelong lover of classical music or know very little about it\, come and experience the Magnificat in a new way.\n\n\nFriday 9 October 2026\n7:30pm\nImmaculate Heart of Mary Parish\, Scarborough\n\n\nhttps://brushfire.com/dawsonsociety/WBBoct26/633297
