“Eucharist: The Place of Encounter with Christ”
In recent years Pope Francis has emphasised the Eucharist as a privileged site of encounter with the Risen Lord. This workshop explores the history and theology of the Eucharist to imagine ways of deepening Eucharistic practice in our communities and our lives in response to this urgent invitation.
Tony Alonso PhD is one of the foremost contemporary Catholic liturgical composers and a noted theologian whose work responds to the diverse realities of contemporary culture. Many of his 200+ compositions and arrangements appear in compilations and
hymnals throughout the world.
Tony has authored numerous journal articles and his book, Commodified Communion: Eucharist, Consumer Culture, and the Practice of Everyday Life was awarded the 2021 Hispanic Theological Initiative Book Prize.
Tony holds a BMus in choral conducting, an MA in theology, and a PhD in religion from Emory University. He is Director of Catholic Studies and Assistant Professor of Theology and Culture at Candler School of Theology at Emory University (Atlanta, USA).
