❤️ Returning to the Heart | A Contemplative Refresher for Spiritual Directors
The ministry of spiritual direction asks us to listen deeply — to be present to another person’s story, to notice what is unfolding beneath the surface, and to remain attentive to the movements of the Spirit.
But who accompanies the accompanier?
Sometimes we need to step away from the demands of ministry and return to the heart of why we began.
From 21–23 September 2026, Heart of Life invites spiritual directors to take three days for renewal, reflection and deepening practice through Returning to the Heart: Contemplative Refresher Course for Spiritual Directors.
Across the three days, participants will have the opportunity to:
🌿 Reconnect with their original calling and vocation
🌿 Deepen presence and listening skills
🌿 Refresh and develop practical skills for spiritual accompaniment
🌿 Engage in peer consultation and shared wisdom
🌿 Make space for silence, reflection and contemplative practice
🌿 Consider sustainable approaches to self-care and ministry
This is an opportunity to step out of the usual rhythm of accompanying others and allow yourself to be accompanied, renewed and nourished.
Facilitated by Apryl Huglin, Leslie Hanger and Kathleen Ward, the course brings together contemplative depth, practical wisdom and the richness of learning alongside fellow spiritual directors.
Whether you have been practising spiritual direction for many years or simply recognise that your own ministry could benefit from some intentional renewal, perhaps this is the time to return to the heart.
