Join us for a peaceful (silent) Ignatian retreat that includes Mass and personalised spiritual guidance from Fr. Richard Shortall SJ. The retreat begins at 7:30pm sharp on Friday and ends after lunch on Sunday. Please note spaces are limited, so register soon to secure your place.
Given the experience of economic and social uncertainty that faces so many of us throughout the motu at the moment, do you find yourself wanting some time away from these pressures? Perhaps you feel the need for more than a break or a holiday: space to reflect on your life; to consider the decisions you must make; the priorities you want to set. You need the space to get in touch with your inner spiritual self and pay attention to God. An Individually Guided Ignatian Retreat is a time of silence – over a weekend or a 4-day period – that is structured flexibly. The retreatant (you) is accompanied by a spiritual director (Fr Richard Shortall SJ) who is thoroughly trained and experienced in listening to and accompanying retreatants. Richard meets you individually each day for no more than 30 minutes. He listens respectfully to you and your circumstances so that he can suggest passages of Scripture, various forms of praying and other ways of spending the retreat day. You are invited to reflect on your experience in prayer and then talk about what has happened in your day when you meet Richard. Spiritual Discernment – a process of discovering where God is at work in your life and of making God-centred decisions – is central to this accompaniment. The Spiritual Director, drawing on the experience and wisdom of St Ignatius Loyola (as found in his Spiritual Exercises) helps you, the retreatant, as you deepen your relationship with God. These retreats take place in the peaceful grounds of the Cluny Sisters property in Tauranga, close to the tranquil waters of the Waimapu Estuary with its rich bird life. The retreats are fully catered and include accommodation. Each retreatant has their own bedroom with shared bathroom facilities. The Retreat Centre includes a chapel for individual prayer; 2 lounge areas and a table with materials set aside for sketching and pencil work.
